Matthew is the only Gospel that begins with a Jewish genealogy leading to the birth of the Messiah. His training and experience as a tax collector caused him to focus meticulously on details and get them right. Yet, Matthew deviates from the traditional format of Jewish genealogies and includes five specific women in this list of those in the lineage of Jesus Christ. What was the purpose for including women and why these particular women?

In this series we will look at each of these five women—Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and Mary—to uncover why the Holy Spirit inspired Matthew to include them, and what meaning that holds for us today. It’s an amazing study that will encourage and inspire you; don’t miss it!
