PROGRAM D-7079

Do you have some area in your life that is out of control?  Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit of God within us, an evidence that we’re walking with Jesus, and when we don’t exercise self-control, Proverbs 25:28 says we’re like cities whose walls are broken down.

It’s important to recognize where you are out of control, name it specifically, confess it as sin, find scripture verses that relate to it, memorize them and pray them into your life on a daily basis.  Then, make yourself accountable to someone else. Ask them to pray with you about it and hold you accountable.

Paul wrote in Romans 6:11: “In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”  It is done by faith, not by feelings or by sight.  Jesus took care of that old self when he died, and you and I must keep counting it as so.

I recommend you quote each morning Galatians 2:20:  “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”  And pray as you start each day, “Lord, I count myself dead to sin but alive unto you.  I live by faith today—faith in what you’ve told me is true.  I believe my old self has been crucified with Christ and I accept it as a fact by faith.”

You see, it’s not difficult to control a dead person.  If you tell a dead person to be quiet, they are.  You command a dead person to stay put, they’ll stay put.  It’s only when self is alive and well that it is out of control.

Now, to help you in this process, not only would I like to send you a copy of this week’s transcript, but also a form which puts the process in a format you can use.  I find that by putting things in writing and referring to them, they get into my head better, and it helps me.  If you’re serious about being self-controlled but are finding it difficult to do, perhaps this form will help to guide your thinking and your praying, so that the Holy Spirit can start to change your thoughts and your words, and thereby change you.
