What blessings does God have for you which you have never claimed? The Bible gives us many examples of people who missed God’s blessings because they never humbled themselves. In Psalm 107 we read:

“Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. . . Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent forth his word and healed them. . .”

Much of the affliction we suffer can be traced back to our rebellious ways, or the rebellion of someone else that has had its effects on us. Why would we ever rebel against a good and loving God? Because, like Lucifer the fallen angel, we want control. We want to run our lives and dictate our destinies. Somehow we overlook the fact that when we run our lives, we make a big mess. We fail to acknowledge our own inadequacy in the control department, and just keep rebelling and therefore suffering.

However, God has blessings for us if and when we will stop the rebellion and cry out to him for help. We have to humble ourselves, admit we’ve made a mess, and then allow his word to heal us. That means we have to know and obey his principles and give over the controls of our lives to God. Once we do that, God has blessings to pour out on us.

Now you may be currently living in a state of rebellion against God. It may be a major rebellion or a minor one, but when you rebel against God’s control in your life, you plug up all his blessings. He’s got baskets full of blessings waiting to pour on you, whenever you cry to him in humility, ask for forgiveness, and forsake your rebellion. Is your stubborn heart keeping you from what God wants to do for you and through you?

Paul wrote to the Galatians: “Have you suffered so much for nothing—if it really was for nothing?” Maybe that describes you: You keep suffering and missing God’s best because you refuse to end your rebellion. Not very smart, is it. I hope you’ll change your mind and heart today.
