PROGRAM D-8105

I want to give you some very practical ways to train yourself to be more of an encourager. There’s no excuse for any of us not to be encouragers and it is a biblical command that we encourage each other.

What are some things we can do to encourage other people? Well, sincere compliments are one good way. I dare say if you took a count in a given day, you would discover that you had several complimentary thoughts about someone. You liked someone’s new dress or haircut, or you thought a project was well done. But the question is, did you say it? If you just passed on verbally the compliments that you think already, you’d be surprised how quickly you’d become an encourager.

A second way to encourage is to keep some notes and cards handy at home and at work, and get in the habit of writing little notes when you want to encourage someone. I know—nobody sends handwritten notes anymore. But that just makes them doubly special when you do send one. How I treasure those unexpected notes that I get from time to time. Try it.

Maybe you need to make a plan for encouragement, a “To Do” list of things you can do to encourage people. That’s a good way to begin.

What happens when we become encouragers? The Bible says, “Whatever you sow, you reap.” As you’re investing your time in other people’s lives, you will discover that it starts to come back to you. The very act of encouraging others becomes an encouragement to you. It’s like a boomerang: you give it out and it comes right back to you.

I want this ministry to be one of encouragement. We are always willing to pray for any requests you want to share with us. We have a website that has much encouraging material, so I invite you to visit it at christianworkingwoman.org and use our resources that are there to encourage you.
