Are you afraid to trust God? For sure our most useless fear is our fear of trusting God. For ten years I was afraid to trust God with the control of my life because I was afraid he would take me where I didn’t want to go. I was afraid he would not allow me to have what I wanted, and I would be miserable.
How can any of us who have been born from above, who truly have been redeemed and have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ—how can we not trust our Heavenly Father? It’s because we either don’t know or simply don’t believe God is who God is.
The Bible teaches us that he is the true and only God, who has all power, all wisdom, and all knowledge. We know from Scripture that God is wiser than we are, and he is gracious, merciful, loving, and kind. In addition, the Bible teaches us that God has good plans for us—plans to prosper us and give us hope, not to harm us. So, I ask you, what’s not to trust?
Our fear of trusting God is this:
- It says we think we’re better at running our lives than he is.
- Our thinking is very confused.
- Self-defeating. We bring great harm on ourselves by refusing to give God control.
- It is full of pride and it is a sin that needs to be confessed and forsaken.
Whatever the fear which is keeping you from trusting God, it is unfounded and unreasonable, and it is a trick of Satan to keep you from the joy and peace of a trusting, joyful life. Let go of those fears today, confess your sin of unbelief, get into God’s Word daily, and you, too, can be set free from your fear of trusting God.
