A good friend once told me something that I liked a lot, and it got me to thinking. She said, “I want to live in such a way that when my feet hit the floor in the morning, the devil says, ‘Oh, no, she’s awake!’”
We are all well aware that we have an enemy who gives us problems. In fact, his mission in life is to cause us as much difficulty as possible. He would kill and destroy us if he could, and we are in a spiritual battle with him every day.
But have you ever wondered if the enemy is threatened by your presence, your life, your testimony? Do you cause problems for him and give him some headaches? Do you live in such a way that he cannot succeed in his plans to ruin you?
Don’t you think if we’re living the kind of vibrant life we should be and can be, the devil will truly fear the impact of our lives? Let’s think about what could cause Satan trouble, what might cause him to say about us, “Oh, no, she’s awake!” or “Oh, no, he’s awake.”
The knowledge of God’s Word in our minds always scares the Devil.
Jesus defeated Satan with Scripture, and that’s also how we will defeat him. Therefore, when we are growing in our knowledge of the Bible, it gives Satan headaches!
Ephesians 6 teaches us that our one offensive weapon is the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. You want to really drive Satan nuts? Memorize scripture. When you memorize it, you have it with you all the time.
Many times, our enemy attacks us unexpectedly in the most unusual places, and we don’t have time to find our concordance and look up some appropriate scripture. When it’s in our memory bank, as it was for Jesus when he was tempted, we can whip out that powerful Sword and use it against the enemy and defeat him.
“For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). There is no place that the Word of God can’t reach, and no weapon that Satan forms against you can stand against scripture.
If you stay in God’s Word and hide it in your heart, undoubtedly Satan will say when you wake up in the morning, “Oh, no, she’s awake!” Yes, indeed, a knowledge of the Bible is a sure-fire way to upset the enemy and put him on the run.
