PROGRAM D-8202

Are you carrying heavy burdens around with you? If so, I want to ask if you packed your worries to take with you today? If you’re a Christian, there is no excuse or reason for you to carry heavy burdens. Jesus has invited you to exchange your heavy burdens for his light one.

Maybe you carry those burdens because you feel you deserve them. While that may be true, if we all got what we deserve, things would really be awful. We’re dealing with a God of mercy and grace. He doesn’t give us what we deserve. He gives out of his heart of love and kindness, and he’s most willing to exchange our burdens for his.

All we have to do is simply exchange them—leave ours at the feet of Jesus and take his light burden in its place. You may wonder how you do that—it all seems too easy.

Well, exchange simply means to hand it over, give it up, drop it. You must make a conscious decision that you will let it go—by faith. It takes faith on your part, and a set of your will to let go of that burden and choose not to carry it. You consciously relinquish your heavy burden and choose to believe that Jesus will keep his word and exchange his for yours.

Remember, too, this is an act of your will, not your emotions. Do it by faith, regardless of what your emotions and feelings are saying to you.

In the place of worry, he’ll give you peace. Instead of guilt, Jesus will give you forgiveness. Leave that heavy, awful fear with Jesus and he’ll give you joy and comfort in its place.

Don’t forget, If it’s not light, it’s not right! Picture yourself with that heavy bag of burdens, dropping them at the feet of Jesus, and taking instead his burden which is easy to carry. I encourage you to consciously relinquish your burden to Jesus today—right now—and take his in its place. You’ll discover that his yoke is easy and his burden is light.
