PROGRAM D-8421

Thirty-five years ago—this month—I began this radio ministry on one station in Chicago, and now we’re on about 400 stations nationwide and internationally. So, this week we are going to celebrate!

Psalm 135:7 says, “They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.” That’s what I’m celebrating—God’s abundant goodness to bless this ministry for the past thirty-five years!

I never dreamed God had such big plans for this radio ministry when I recorded those first messages in 1984. After months of praying about the need for a program that spoke to Christian working women like myself, God miraculously opened a door. I knew nothing about radio, had no connections, no experience, but I had a passion for someone to share biblical principles for working women like me.

I decided as I drove to work one day that it was time to put feet to my prayers. How do you begin a radio program? I asked myself. I decided to put something together and take it to someone! Truly that was the extent of my knowledge, but as I got to work that very day, a newspaper article on my desk announced that a station in Chicago had just been purchased and would now be a Christian station.

“Hmm,” I thought, “I wonder if I could be on that station.” I decided to contact them but, before I could do that, on that very day, someone from the station called and asked me to be part of a panel discussion the next Saturday. To this day, I have no idea why they contacted me or how they got my name, but I decided it was not a coincidence and, after being on the panel, I told the woman in charge about my idea for a radio program.

She encouraged me—and the rest, as they say, is history. That was in May of 1984, and I put together a fifteen-minute weekly program, as well as a non-profit organization, and in August we were on the air.

We added this daily edition a few years later, and now, incredibly, our program is broadcast on over 400 stations nationally and internationally. Only God could do that.

A listener from Florida wrote, “Believe it or not, Mary, your voice is very familiar to me, as I listened to your show when I lived in the San Francisco Bay area as well. Keep up the good work in providing relevant information to today’s Christian working woman.”

Thanks, Catherine. By God’s grace we will do just that.
