I am encouraging you to become a fanatic—a fanatical encourager! I’m hoping you will make it your purpose each day to encourage the people in your life—whether they encourage you or not. We are told in Scripture to encourage others, and I’m giving you some easy, practical, everyday things you can do to become a fanatical encourager.
I have suggested you become fanatical about speaking words of encouragement, fanatical about praying for others and letting them know you are praying, and fanatical about writing notes. Here are some additional ideas.
Become fanatical about remembering birthdays.
Put the birth dates of family, friends, coworkers, pastors—important people in your life—on your calendar, and simply send a card. You can buy boxes of cards to hold the price down or send e-cards. But if you don’t put these dates on your calendar, you’ll let some birthdays slip up on you.
Become fanatical about greeting people.
As you enter the workplace, greet coworkers and customers with a smile and a cheery “Good morning.” As you go to church, look everyone in the eye and say hello. When you’re checking out at the grocery store, greet the clerk there with a smile and ask, “How’re you doing?” There are many people in your day where your only contact is a brief one. Don’t waste that opportunity. Fanatical encouragers take the initiative to greet others.
Become fanatical about welcoming new people.
Whether on the job or at church—or wherever—make sure you make that new person feel at home. Look for that person and take it on yourself to be the welcoming committee for them.
You see, becoming a fanatical encourager doesn’t take a lot of time or money. It just takes a little effort. If you’re like me, you just have to remember to do it and not allow your own agenda to swallow you alive.
To help you on your journey to becoming a fanatical encourager, we’ve prepared ten pass-along encouragement cards, the size of business cards, and we’ll be glad to send those to you if you will promise to pass along those cards of encouragement very soon—like within the next two weeks. Remember, we provide them to you for you to pass along to others. It’s easy to do.
