Here is a prayer by the poet and author, Robert Louis Stevenson, which gives us some good thoughts for this Christmas Day.

Loving Father,
Help us to remember the birth of Jesus
That we may share in the song of the angels,
The gladness of the shepherds,
And the worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate and
Open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift and
Good desires with every greeting.

Deliver us from evil by the blessing
Which Christ brings, and teach us to
Be merry with clear hearts.

May this Christmas morning make us happy
To be Thy children, and this Christmas evening
Bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,
Forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake.

Amen.

And from Isaiah 9, verses 6 and 7:

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.
