What side of your mind did you wake up on this morning? Sounds like a funny question doesn’t it? Well, today’s love habit has to do with what our mind dwells on because what our mind dwells on determines the direction of our life. So our love habit for today is dwelling on truth.

2. Love dwells on truth.

Your life will always move in the direction of your strongest thoughts. What thoughts are you dwelling on?

In Philippians 4:8 Paul teaches us what to think about when he says: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” 

There is a computer term GIGO. It stands for garbage in garbage out. In computer science GIGO is the concept that flawed, or nonsense input data produces nonsense output. Rubbish in, rubbish out is an alternate wording. It’s the same with our minds. If we fill our minds with junk…too many tik-tok videos, excessive amounts of daily news, or trashy romance novels, it influences our minds and impacts our actions.

It has been said that the mind is like a garden. We need to be aware of what thoughts we are allowing to grow and take root which ultimately produce fruit in our lives. And love produces good fruit. So we literally root out, weed out the thoughts that don’t produce loving, godly actions and behaviors in our life.

As Romans 12:2 reminds us, you are to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. And the transformation you are aiming for is to be more like Jesus. To be more like love.

Are you dwelling on God’s Word? On truth? Are you meditating on thoughts that are lovely? Thoughts that produce goodness, generosity, kindness, and compassion? Do your thoughts promote love and acting in ways that are loving, pleasing, acceptable, grateful?

When we practice dwelling on the truth of God’s Word, good things, God things will flow from us.

So let’s get in the habit of love.
