I’m showing you from God’s Word exactly what you need to do if you want to be wise. And who doesn’t want to be wise? Being wise is more than just being smart; it gives you the ability to make good decisions, avoid lots of mistakes and prevent you from taking wrong paths, and in the process, you will be a help to many others.

Proverbs 6:6 tells us: “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!” So, what is it that a wise person needs to learn from ants? What is “ant wisdom”?

  • Ants work hard and are never lazy.
  • Ants don’t let any obstacle stop them. You have seen an ant carrying something larger than it was, right? They are not discouraged just because things get tough.
  • Ants plan ahead and work with precision in very organized ways. They store their food during seasons of plenty, and they also plan seasons of work and of rest to prevent burnout.
  • Ants know that they can accomplish more by working together than by working alone. In their own way, they set goals and work together to achieve them.

So, here is “ant wisdom” if you want to be wise:

  • Work hard—be the hardest worker on your job. Don’t waste time; don’t be lazy.
  • When you run into a roadblock of some kind, take it as a challenge and don’t quit.
  • Be very good stewards of your possessions, your time, your money. Plan ahead for times of need. That means, save some money and don’t waste what God has given you.

Proverbs 12:18 says: “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Here’s another principle if you want to be a wise person: Speak words of life, not death! Words have such power, and a wise person knows how to use that power in good ways—to bring healing and encouragement. A wise person will not be reckless with words. In fact, another Proverb says that when words are many, sin is not absent! So, a wise person will not be quick to share her opinions; she will not be reckless with words.
