PROGRAM D-8369

Have you ever been ashamed to tell someone that you are a believer in Jesus Christ? I have shared with you the results of a survey of Christians which showed that fear of the other person’s response was the number one hindrance, while the second hindrance was that they didn’t know enough to share the gospel.

Other reasons which appeared in this survey were:

  • Apathy—Lack of Concern

If you see that apathy is part of the reason you don’t witness more, pray, “Lord, break my heart with the things that break your heart.” Pray for compassion. Aren’t you glad someone had compassion on you? Start praying specifically for people and ask God to give you a burden for those individuals.

  • Too Busy—The Tyranny of the Urgent

When that happens to us, we’ve lost our eternal perspective. We’ve forgotten that where someone spends eternity is far more important than any other issue, duty, or responsibility we may have.

  • Inconsistent Personal Life

Many indicated that they did not share the gospel because of something in their own lives which they knew was not pleasing to God; therefore, they felt disqualified. If this is where you are, the solution is simple: Get right with God. Confess your sin and make things right with the Lord.

Before we can truly say “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ,” we must examine our lives and deal with any hindrance which we’ve allowed to build up in our minds. We can be victorious through Jesus Christ.

There are many ways to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let me mention a few:

  • Relationships

Build friendships. Establish comfortable communications so that a conversation is natural and easy.

  • Bible Study

Start a Bible study in your home or at noon time on the job. You’ll be surprised how many people are interested in knowing what the Bible has to say. This gives a comfortable forum for sharing the gospel.

  • Social Ministry

Reach out to people in need—sick people, elderly people, handicapped people. There are so many things we can do to help people, and this certainly opens doors for sharing the gospel.

  • Children

If you are a natural with children, think of starting a Bible club at your home on Saturdays or something like that. Statistics show that over 70% of believers accepted Christ before they were 20 years old.

We have the good news to share. Let’s dedicate ourselves to truly never being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
