PROGRAM D-6851

We’ve all heard the advertising slogan that says “Don’t leave home without it,” referring to a credit card. I want to suggest that there are far more important things you need to take with you each day when you leave home.

For example, don’t leave home without a grace dip.  What’s a grace dip, you ask?  Well, it’s my way of reminding myself that I need to be saturated, coated, and protected with God’s grace as I go out to face my day.

You see, we talk about grace a lot and we sing about it, but I’m not sure too many of us live in grace as much as we should. Let’s face it; it is difficult for us to conceive that the God of the universe would choose to be gracious to us.  But the Bible tells us over and over again that we serve a God of astonishing grace.

That means that the King of kings and Lord of lords extends to you and me blessings and favor and love and help and care and protection and comfort and assurance and hope and joy and peace.   He freely gives us all this and more because he is a God of grace.  The Apostle Paul wrote:

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times; having all that you need, you will abound in every good work (2 Cor. 9:8).

So, a grace dip is a daily reminder that I am encircled by God’s grace, no matter where I go or what I do or what problems I face or how weary I am or how fearful I may be.  God’s grace is abounding to me, so that in all things at all times I am protected by his grace.

Now, how do we get this grace dip?  Well, each morning before you leave home you spend some time in God’s presence with his Word, and you pray, “Lord, remind me all day today that I am surrounded with your grace.  No matter what happens, help me to remember that your grace is sufficient for me.  When I start to lose control, cover me with your grace.  When I feel insignificant, let your grace pour into every missing part of my life so that I know how significant I am to you.  When I want to quit, give me the grace to keep on.  When the enemy of my soul tries to destroy me or discourage me, save me by your grace from his vicious attacks.  May I truly have a grace-full day.”

That’s how you get your grace dip.  Did you leave home without it today?
