PROGRAM D-7973

Are you an encourager? One of my frequent prayers is that God will make me an encourager—one who refreshes others, as we read in Proverbs 11.  An encourager is not a person who just happened to be born that way. No, an encourager is one who makes encouraging a high priority, and thinks of ways to encourage others. It is a directive given to us in many passages of Scripture, so as Christians we have a responsibility to become encouragers.

I want to encourage all workplace Christians to become intentional about encouraging their coworkers. Our workplaces are often full of discouragement, but what if we decided to become agents of encouragement in that work environment? Don’t you think God wants us to do that? Sometimes, admittedly, it just looks like mission impossible. After all, what can one person do?

I have a suggestion that may be just the thing for you to use where you work. It is a pack of cards called Pass-Along Encouragement. This packet contains fifteen cards, each with a simple quote or saying on one side and an appropriate scripture verse on the other. The idea is that you choose the right card for the right person, and then simply give the card to that person as an encouragement. I’m most glad to send you this packet as our gift to you, provided—yes, there is a catch—you will sincerely make a commitment to distribute five of these cards each week until they are all gone.

Each card is different. For example, one says “God will provide you with the strength and confidence you need to succeed,” and the verse on the other side is Philippians 4:13: “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” No doubt there is someone for or with whom you work who is facing a monumental challenge of some sort—an upcoming presentation, a report that must be completed in a short time-frame, whatever. I’m sure we’ve all been in that place where the job before us looks impossible.

What if you found the right moment to present this card, simply saying, “I know what it’s like to be faced with a difficult assignment. This has encouraged me; I thought it might encourage you as well.” Don’t you think that simple act of encouragement could make a difference?

Remember: God’s Word never returns void; you never know how one verse of scripture can impact someone’s life!
