There’s a motto I often quote to myself to remind me of two important principles: Do it right and do it now.
Just think how your life might be changed for the better if every day you determined to do it right and do it now. Whatever you must do each day, if you do it as good as you possibly can, and you do it in a timely way, you will save yourself untold stress and trouble. I want to explore these two principles: Do it right and do it now.
We read in Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” Proverbs 21:5 says that “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”
Doing it right means you don’t take short cuts, you don’t overlook the details, and you don’t rush so fast that you do a sloppy job. You put the energy, the time, and the effort into your job which is required so that you do it right.
This sounds so simple, doesn’t it? Why bother mentioning it? Well, I know in my own life, I often so want to get done with what I have to do that I cut corners, or I just don’t do it with all my might—maybe some of my might, but not all of it.
Recently my husband and I have been doing a lot of painting in our house—woodwork, doors, and trim. To do it right, we have to first clean it with a strong cleanser, sand it a bit, then put on a primer coat and let that dry completely before applying the final coat. I wanted to short cut the process—speed it up. After all, cleaning and sanding are really no fun! But my husband kept reminding me that if I don’t do it right, I won’t be happy with the finished product—the paint could peel—and so I just had to do it right.
So I ask you, “Do you live by this principle that whatever you have to do, you do it right—with all your might and with diligence? That’s the first part of Do it right and do it now.
