PROGRAM D-7269

I think we often are frightened at the prospect of sharing our faith because it doesn’t seem to be a natural thing to do.  But I’ve been sharing with you some creative new ideas to overcome the barriers between you and those you work with, so that you can open up opportunities to share your faith in Jesus Christ.

Idea #4:  Invite a Coworker to Take a Walk During Lunch

Nowadays we all need more exercise, so this is a terrific idea to accomplish two good things at once.  It doesn’t take any additional time out of your day and it will also reduce your stress to get away from the sometimes oppressive environment on the job.  When you get out of the job environment, walls tend to break down and communication opens up.  So, if you know someone who might be attracted to a little exercise, why not suggest walking together at lunch a few times a week?

Remember, you’re out for a walk, so don’t try to talk too much.  Let them talk and just ask God to give you open doors in his time.  Be ready to give an answer for the hope that is in you, but it’s not necessary to give the four spiritual laws during the first walk!

Idea #5:  Celebrate the Birthdays of Your Coworkers

It wouldn’t be difficult to find out all of the birth dates of your coworkers, and then organize a simple celebration, with cards, goodies, balloons, etc.  Who can resist her own birthday party?

At least send birthday cards, as well as get well and congratulation cards.  When someone gets a promotion or something good happens, a simple celebration for them would be easy to do and very powerful.  One way to make this easier is to go to your Christian bookstore and buy a box of birthday cards so you have them handy.  Then mark your calendar clearly so you won’t forget.  Little disciplines like that will help you become more thoughtful of others, and believe me, that will open doors of communication.

I’m trying to get better at sending emails and notes of encouragement to people.  An unexpected note like that can really open doors of opportunity to get to know people.  Can you think of someone at your job that deserves some special recognition or encouragement?  Send them a note; putting it in writing really has a special impact and is a simple but creative door opener.
