PROGRAM D-7603

Has someone rejected you lately? Whether it’s a small rejection or something more significant, rejections can ruin a good day, can’t they?

Alexander said he could tell it was going to be a bad day:

“. . . because Paul said I wasn’t his best friend anymore. He said that Philip Parker was his best friend and that Albert Moyo was his next best friend and that I was only his third best friend.  I hope you sit on a tack, I said to Paul. I hope the next time you get a double-decker strawberry ice-cream cone the ice cream part falls off the cone part and lands in Australia.”

A bad day can be the result of just some small rejections. How can you keep from over-reacting to these moments of rejections? Start thinking about how Jesus loves you. That always works for me. Remember that, as a believer, you are seated in heavenly places with Jesus, he will never leave you or forsake you, and nothing can separate you from his love. Remember that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.

That wasn’t all for Alexander on his horrible day. He also had to deal with some bad news:

“. . . after school my mom took us all to the dentist and Dr. Fields found a cavity just in me. Come back next week and I’ll fix it, said Dr. Fields. Next week, I said, I’m going to Australia.

Who wants to hear bad news? And yet life is full of it, from the little mundane things like “We don’t carry that part any longer,” to the more traumatic things like bad news about our health, or our job being eliminated. Do you want to run away when you hear bad news? Perhaps, like Alexander, you’ve got Australia on your mind.

Run away, but run right to your safe hiding place. David wrote: “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance” (Ps. 32:7). But for a hiding place to be effective, we have to run to it, don’t we? Next time you get bad news, run to your safe hiding place: the Lord. He will protect you and surround you with songs of deliverance.
