PROGRAM D-7583

I really hope that you will take seriously the need to become a praising person, one who looks for opportunities to praise God, one who makes praise a daily, even hourly practice. If not, you’re missing out on the great power that is ours through praise.

We’ve seen that praise defeats our enemy, and it destroys fear.

Praise helps us mature spiritually.

Praise is the highest function of our human spirit. We are transformed by praise. It strengthens our inner person. Praise is the spark plug of faith. It is the one thing needed to get our faith off the ground and to dispel doubt. The secret of faith without doubt is praise. So when we start to praise God more and more, we’ll have more faith and trust in the Lord. And then we’ll see ourselves start to mature spiritually.

Have you had difficulty believing God cares, believing he can and will answer prayer, trusting him for the circumstances of your life? Your faith will be strengthened if you will start praising God. You don’t have to feel like it; just start verbally out-loud praising God for who he is and what he has done. Discover how quickly that praise will strengthen your faith, and you’ll find that you can believe God in those areas where you were having difficulty before.

Praise keeps us pure.

Praise is good. When you’re praising God, you’re doing good, therefore you’re not doing wrong. It keeps you from sin.

Psalm 147:1: Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him.

You’ll note how often the Psalmist says to sing praise to God. God has given us the great gift of music to help us praise him, and we need to make it a habit to sing praises to God, especially when we’re discouraged or tempted or our faith is weak. My pastor tells the story of how he had a long drive by himself one Saturday evening, and he decided to sing all the songs and hymns of faith he could remember; to keep him awake and prepare his heart to preach the next morning. He said that pretty soon his heart was so filled with joy and praise that he told the Lord he just couldn’t take anymore joy! Singing praise to God can do that for you. I highly recommend it!
