How do you plan to celebrate Easter? For some it will be a day of great rejoicing and praise, and for others, sadly, it will simply be a tradition where they will go through the ritual of remembering what Jesus did for us but it won’t impact their hearts. So, how about you? Are you preparing your heart for Easter?

My next suggestion is to put in writing what Easter means to you. You could journal as you read again the Gospel records, and simply put in writing what you are feeling, what you hear in your heart from God’s Spirit as you meditate on this incredible truth—you serve a risen Savior!

I have found that taking time to record my thoughts, to journal and make a record of how God is speaking to me has been an invaluable part of my spiritual growth. Putting things in writing simply forces you to focus on the truth of the resurrection. It is an intentional act that takes time and concentration, and as a result, begins to fill your mind and your heart with truth. And I even recommend that you handwrite it because that takes more time and it’s a very personal act that somehow seems to have more meaning—at least to me it does. But the important thing is to write what you are feeling and experiencing as you read and re-read the story of the crucifixion.

With all our electronic tools, keeping diaries or journals is not as common as it once was before we had computers and smart phones. And yes, I can actually remember when there were no such things! They are wonderful tools and I’m thankful for them, but there’s something about taking time to write what you’re thinking and feeling—something just between you and God—that truly helps. It forces you to slow down long enough to think and to meditate, and we’re all in need of slowing down these days, aren’t we?

So, I’m praying that you will intentionally prepare your heart for Easter this week. You’ll benefit so much if you do.
