PROGRAM D-7361

It’s easy to just make excuses, don’t you think?  I find I often let myself off the hook with some excuse or another. I’m going to look at some excuses you and I often use, and then see what God’s answer is to our excuses!

For example, how often do you use the excuse “I’m too tired”?  That’s probably one of the most worn-out excuses ever.  When you’ve got something to do that you don’t want to do, it’s easy to say, “I’m too tired.”  When someone wants you to do something with or for them and you really don’t want to, you can just say, “I’m too tired.”

You know, I’ve discovered I can make myself tired by telling myself I’m tired.  Even if I am genuinely tired, it doesn’t help to keep reminding myself that I’m tired.  Our own self-talk can be our worst enemy at times.  I would encourage you to take note of how often you use this excuse “I’m too tired.”  Maybe it would be smarter to say some encouraging words to yourself—like “You got a lot done today,” or “You can get this done—I know you can.”

But then of course, there are times when we are tired, and Jesus is well aware of that because he was often tired when he lived in an earthly body like ours.  Here are his words of encouragement when we’re tired:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.  (Matt. 11:28 – 30)

Body rest and soul rest are found by coming to Jesus with our burdens and letting him carry the load.  God has an answer for us when we’re tired—that’s good news, isn’t it?

We’ve made these excuses with God’s answers in a set of cards that you’ll find on our website or we can mail them to you.
