I have to admit that when I’m in the middle of a bad day, it’s really difficult for me to refocus my mind. I tend to overdose on the bad things that are happening on a bad day. Maybe you have the same tendency.

But here’s the thing: bad days are a part of everybody’s life. The challenge is how do you face them? Do they wipe you out for days on end, or can you quickly regain your focus and remember all the good things. We just take the good days for granted most of the time, don’t we? But when a bad day comes along, we can get mired in them for days on end.

I have a suggestion: Next time you have a bad day, make yourself remember a good day. For example, you might remember the day your baby was born, or the day you were married, or the day you heard good news from your doctor. You’ve had good days, too—no doubt many good days. But in the midst of a bad day, the memories of our good days seem to fade. So, replace the thoughts of the bad day with the memory of a good one.

Here’s a Bible passage to help you through a bad day, from 2 Corinthians 4:

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

On a bad day, these are words of hope. Repeat them and then obey them—fix your eyes on the eternal truths, the knowledge that as a believer in Jesus Christ, your troubles are working for your good in ways you may never know. So, change your focus from what you can see, and look at what you can’t see—God’s promises and your hope of eternal life with Jesus.
