Recently I had the opportunity and the privilege to have a conversation with my good friend, Dάmaris Carbaugh. We talked about our upcoming Weekend Getaway, April 17-19, 2020, and specifically about the theme of God’s Unfailing Love.

Dάmaris had some unique and helpful thoughts about this topic, so I thought I’d share some of those with you. We were talking about the security we have as disciples of Jesus Christ and what a difference that makes in our lives. I thought Dάmaris had a good illustration.

Dάmaris: Sometimes when I see a little baby like a year old and the mom’s holding him and I approach him and I’ll extend my hand and sometimes that baby will go backward like I don’t know you. But every once in awhile I go to a child that makes me weak, and that child doesn’t know me and that child comes towards me.You know what I tell those parents – that child is very secure and very loved and she or he is not afraid to come to me because he is surrounded with this love and that’s what the love of God does. When you are truly loved you can give love and you’re not afraid of others…that only comes from the true love of God.

Isn’t that true? The security we have because we are confident of God’s unfailing love gives us confidence, sets us free, makes it possible for us to love others. What I’ve discovered is that when I’m having difficulty loving someone in my life, it’s because I’ve forgotten about God’s unfailing love—I’m not living in the conscious awareness that the God of the universe loves me.

We’re going to spend a weekend examining and exploring God’s unfailing love from many perspectives, and I believe we’ll take away not only a new understanding of his love, but we’ll learn how to live in that love daily—and see what a difference that will make in our relationships, in our confidence, in our joy and peace.
