You know, when you do something for 32 years, there must be a good reason to do it–right? Well, that may not always be true; sometimes we just do things because, well, that’s the way we’ve always done it. So, it’s really helpful to take inventory of your activities—what you do and why you do it—to make sure it is still worthwhile, producing good results.

We’ve been hosting our weekend getaway for 32 years. Not too many events have that kind of long life. And I can tell you that after each getaway, I ask the Lord, “Do you want us to do it again?” In other words, I don’t keep hosting these events simply because we’ve done it before. I want to make sure that it meets needs and makes a difference. And every year the feedback has been that God shows up and touches lives in ways I never imagined.

In talking with Damaris Carbaugh recently—who has been with us many times and will be again this year—I asked her what she considers the best part of our getaways. Here’s her unique response:

Damaris: Everything! Every session we’re together, we’re eating together…all of us experiencing the Christian life as sisters. The most amazing thing I’ve seen is that some women come to the getaway that were not sisters and then leave as sisters in Christ. It’s truly a getaway…rest and recharged to come back. It’s a place where you come and so much goes on, but you leave empowered, joyful and glad that you belong to Jesus.
