One of my favorite verses is Psalm 90:14: “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” First, it reminds me that my day is won or lost in the morning hours. Don’t you find that to be true? If you get out of bed on the wrong side, as we say, it seems the entire day is doomed.

And then it helps me focus on the unfailing love of our God, and when my day starts with that focus, it’s a good day, full of joy and gladness, even in the midst of difficulties. Start noticing what you focus on first thing every morning. That will usually reveal why your day finished well or not. I like Dάmaris Carbaugh’s mantra–the one message she repeats over and over: read your Bible everyday.

Dάmaris: Oh, my goodness, oh how I wish I would have opened up my Bible sooner, but I tell people new in the Lord, if you can just open up your heart and tell the Lord, “speak to me while I read your word,” what you will discover is life-changing. You will never be the same. Listen to me, I still fail, I still grieve God sometimes, but there is such a sense of knowing this unfailing love, which, Mary, we need the power of the Holy Spirit to get that around our head because everything we know fails at some moment. Everything does–but not God’s love. Read God’s Word. In Ephesians 3:18, Paul prays that we would have power to prove how wide, how deep, how vast the love of God is. Because if we don’t ask the Lord to help us, then when you start being insecure about that love, that’s when the trouble happens.

I always appreciate Dάmaris’ passion for the Word of God. And if you and I are ever going to dig into the depths of God’s unfailing love, it will happen as we immerse ourselves more and more into God’s inspired Word.
