“Identity Theft Is Nothing New,” and I’m focusing on how the enemy of our souls wants to steal our identity in Christ.  Do you have a clear understanding of who you are in Christ—who God says you are?  Or has the enemy been trying to steal your identity and keep you in bondage to who you used to be or who someone else says you are?

Our identity in Christ begins when we are born into the family of God through faith in Jesus Christ.  We take on the family name then.  You need to be well-grounded in the truth that you have been chosen by God to be his child, you are loved by him and nothing can separate you from his love.  Who are you?  You are the one Jesus loves.

Did you ever realize that God gave you as a gift to Jesus?  Let me remind you of some verses from the Gospel of John:

Speaking of his sheep who hear his voice and know him, Jesus said, “My Father, who has given them to me is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand; I and the Father are one.” (10:29-30)

In his prayer just before his crucifixion, Jesus prayed, “For you (Father) granted me authority over all people that I might give eternal life to all those you have given me.”  “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world.  They were yours; you gave them to me. . .”  “I pray for them.  I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.”  “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory…”

I hope this truth blows your mind as it has mine lately.  Of course I’ve read these passages many times, but amazingly it has just now gotten through my thick head that I am God’s gift to Jesus.  He chose me to be his child and then picked me up out of mud and mire, put my feet on the solid rock, cleaned me up by his shed blood, and gave me to Jesus.  That’s who I am—that’s who you are if you’re been born into God’s family.  You are a gift.  How awesome is that?

Do not let the enemy steal your identity today.  When he tries to tell you that you are a failure, or you are unworthy, or you don’t measure up, or whatever lie he concocts, just throw this truth in his face:  I am God’s gift to Jesus.  Now, leave me alone.

The Bible says if we resist the enemy, he has to flee from us.  Claim that promise for yourself.
