Bad days come and go, but when you’re having a bad day, it doesn’t seem to really help for someone to say that to you, does it? Sometimes the smallest thing can just set you off in the wrong direction, and then it seems like its downhill from there.

I love the story of Jehoshaphat found in 2 Chronicles 20. Talk about a bad day, Jehoshaphat was facing a day that could wipe out the people of Judah, because of the enemy armies that were on their way to kill them. But in the midst of this dilemma, the prophet of the Lord said to Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah:

This is what the LORD says to you: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (2 Chronicles 20:15)

Now, when the Lord of heaven and earth tells you that he is going to fight your battle for you, that’s reason to hope. That can turn a bad day around. Have you been trying to fight your bad day battle yourself? Trying to change people or circumstances; trying to make things better? Could it be that it’s time for you to listen to God’s word to you—this is not your battle.

I know, you thought it was your battle, it feels like it’s your battle, everyone else says it’s your battle. But if you are a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ, it’s not your battle. God has taken over, and that means you don’t have to be afraid or discouraged, no matter how big that obstacle is in front of you. You can give up the fight and turn it over to God. It’s his battle.

This verse will encourage you time and again on those bad days when things look hopeless. I encourage you to turn to it, learn it and live it.
