Psalm 17:25 – I have been young and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken.
Our God has a purpose in letting us grow old and weak. He has planned the strength and beauty of age as spiritual. We gradually lose the strength and beauty that is temporary, so we will be sure to concentrate on the strength and beauty which is forever. Then we will be eager to leave the temporary, deteriorating part of us and be truly homesick for our eternal home. If we stay young and beautiful, we might never want to leave.
When I was young, happily occupied with all the relationships and activities, I didn’t long for my celestial home. However, as time passes by, I find myself starting to have dim vision, hearing difficulties and troubled sleeplessness. So I said to myself, “God gives us richly all things to enjoy in life’s summer and autumn, and to rejoice too with the onset of life’s winter. I can also anticipate that I’ll soon be living in the land of eternal spring.”
